New Tolbooth Vennel

This is the passageway between the north end of Goldsmiths Hall and St Giles Cathedral. There was an entrance to a stable courtyard behind Goldsmiths Hall and shops on both sides of the passageway. The close (a Scottish term for an enclosed passageway) led under the New Tolbooth and opened out into the square beside the Old Tolbooth and the main entrance to St Giles at its west end.
